Here’s a post written for Bonnie Gray at @faithbarista’s bloggity event. Check her blog out, as well as the other writers’ posts.

Take a look at my humanity.

C’mon, get over here and pay attention, just for a minute. It’s just as embarrassing for me as it is you, but it’s there. It’s part of me, but not forever. Most of my humanity came with me when I got here, but a lot of that’s gone now. In fact, what you’re looking at is nothing compared to what it used to be and it’s continually getting smaller and going away. Well, most of the time.

Every now and again, somebody does something stupid and it causes an allergic reaction to take place and my humanity swells up and starts rampaging around, acting like it owns the place. I guess that happens less now than it used to though, which is nice.

I’m not proud of my humanity, but I refuse to hide it because then it’ll grow and take form again. It’ll change my thinking, actions, relationships and life all back to what they used to be. I don’t want to live like that again. If I keep it out in the open where I and other people can see it, then it’s most likely to die.

Then again, I feel awkward putting this in front of you. I don’t do it so you’ll pay attention to that, in fact, I do it so that you might be able to accept me and help me with it. I’ve experienced enough rejection around here because of my humanity. Sometimes, I want to say,

Hey, I’m up here. Pay attention to me.

You might call it worldliness, carnality, sin, mediocrity, the adamic nature, we have a grocery list of names for it, all of which hint at your perspective on the issue, but none of them makes it sound any better. Call it what you want, because in the end, it won’t be there any longer. And you know what?

Every now and again, I can see your humanity, too.

A buddy of mine and I recently had a conversation that inspired this.

I’m calling this humanity because all of humanity either suffers from it,
or they (temporarily) relish in it.
Either way, nobody gets away from it without God’s Love.
Funny enough, your love can help with that.
