Every now and again, one of us may find our self the fortunate pioneer in a new territory,
the discoverer of a technicality that allows us great freedom, access, or insight into something we may have previously esteemed as restricted or closed off altogether.
I happen to be such an individual today, but luckily for all of you,
I’m going to share my discovery with you.
Consider yourselves blessed.

You see, we have this awful tendency to think of ourselves as being imperfect, evil, vile, wretched, the list of negative adjectives could continue on for an inordinate amount of time when we describe the state of the human race. That little nugget of truth doesn’t catch anyone’s attention as anything novel. That said, we must continue on and consider the consequences of living in such a state of extreme imperfection, mustn’t we?

You see, to make up for totally sucking at life, we tend to censor our words and control our actions with the intention of looking better than we truly happen to be. That is, we fake it. Individuals all over the place choose not to express themselves using four letter words. They don’t give someone the finger, even if they deserve it (a crime against humanity, mind you. People should hear about it in one form or another when their actions merit it). For many, every time they have to make the choice to not express themselves for the sake of sobriety, something negative happens in them- a little piece of them dies. We don’t want that, because let me tell you, every little piece of humanity offered up as a sacrifice for the sake of high standards is a waste!

Now that I’ve presented to you the problem, allow me to offer to you the solution I have discovered.

First Chronicles 28:9 says,

. . . the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. . .

Jeremiah 20:12 says,

“O LORD Almighty, you who examine the righteous and probe the heart and mind. . .”

I have discovered that God already knows when you think someone is a bad word because it’s in your heart long before you’re trying to keep it off your tongue. That said, you might as well tell anyone and everyone just how much they suck, and you might as well go out and do it with some style, because GOD ALREADY KNOWS WHAT YOU’RE THINKING!

Can you say, “Busted?”

That’s where I can justify saying whatever happens to be on your mind. Merely because God already knows, and simply being honest, you’re pretty much already in trouble, so you might as well go all the way, right? At least you’ll have the satisfaction of telling someone off when you’re done!

Jesus further proves my point in Matthew 5:27-28 when He says,

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

The sin has already been committed regardless of your actual actions, so what’s stopping you? I’d prefer not to go there with the whole adultery thing, but it’s no different than telling someone how much you hate them and want them to experience really bad things, so why not?

It doesn’t matter that actions progress in the direction that you allow them to, or that quite frankly, you can learn how to change the intentions of you heart by controlling your actions. It doesn’t matter than a little piece of you is supposed to die because that’s denying yourself for Jesus’ sake. Oh crap, I’m poking holes in my own way out!

Jesus did say,

“. . . the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart,
and these make a man ‘unclean.’ “

I’m not convinced that I should go on . . . because I’ll lose all freedom to swear at people because when I really think about it, I can change interior motives even by censoring my outward actions. I hope that doesn’t mean something like I can choose to love someone, even though they’re pretty much ridiculous!

I’ll come back to this. It seems I need to do some more research to justify acting like I want to! I still hold that God knows what I’m thinking, but perhaps I can’t just give into it after all.

What a shame.
