Just what does an eternal God who lives outside of time mean when He says, “Soon” or something close to it? Is it the kind of soon that your grandma means when you were a little kid and you want some ice cream and she says, “you can wait a little longer. I’ll grab you some soon.”? Five days later. . . you’re pissed at the old lady who either forgot or takes pleasure in depriving little people of sugary goodness. And I was so sure that she was trying to fatten me up so she could push me in the oven!
Anyways, I know that God is faithful, and has more integrity than I’ll ever have, so I must ask, what the crap does He mean when He says soon? Is it the same kind of soon I hear from friends who flake on everything and suck at returning phone calls? I gave up on half of them just last month because I was getting bitter at people not doing what they said they would. . .
Is God’s timing like summer break? There were times in my life when I couldn’t tell you what day it was, let alone the date, because I was too busy having fun, and my concerns were focused on capturing and destroying bugs in ways that were far too cruel for a kid to have conjured up. Maybe God lost track of what day it was. . .
In 2Pet 3:8 it says, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” What does that mean?
I just really want to know what The Big Guy means when He says soon. I’m not going deep, and in fact, I’m acting a little childish, but hey; Sometimes you just need to go with it.
