I had a professor last semester who is convinced that Christian rock is an oxymoron because rock and roll is about rebellion, it can’t be tamed by the man, like Jesus, or some preacher or someone like that, it just can’t be done. I got a B+ in his class, and I’m convinced that it’s because I called him a pig in front of the class. That’s for another post though.

I think that many people don’t understand, or forget that Christianity has been seen as subversive for a long time, so something like this whole rebelious rock and roll business really works well with our faith. The Jews were adamantly in opposition to Jesus because many of them thought they’d lose their power or social position because of Him. Paul got into a lot of trouble for preaching the message in Ephesus because this Christianity was replacing the current worship of Diana, that really kept the economy, or at least one aspect of it going in that city. Silversmiths made little Diana Idols for people to buy and carry around like a Polly Pocket or something, and they were losing business because of Jesus!

The list will go on, even looking at China right now, they see Christianity as being subversive because it’s against particular beliefs or traditions that the Chinese government wants to get rid of. Speaking of China, Brandy Swindell who was recently over there making a ruckus is from Idaho, but don’t get me started on that…

I saw a website the other day that is unfortunately tied to a movie, but it’s a good idea. It’s called “God Still Loves Us” which is a statement made in the movie, “I am Legend”. But the website encourages people to write about their faith, and has an image forum where people have spray-painted the logo, on random signs and down dirty alleys(or just faked it with photoshop). The logo says, God still loves us and happens to have a bio-hazard sign next to it.

“Christian graffiti?”

I wondered….sounds like a pain in the neck, but it’s yet another sign of rebellion that people could use to spread the gospel, although it seems doubtful. It just reminded me of the fact that when Jesus came, His actions under-minded several cultural issues that had come about that weren’t necessarily Godly, so even though I say that Christianity is subversive, I mean so only for the world system that we live in, which to some people is everything.
